Bazillion Books

Bazillion Books
Next week, during Read Across America Week, February 25th-
March 1st, we will be having a book give away sponsored by Bazillion
Books for Kids, during each classes library time. These are gently
used books that have been donated by the Salem-Keizer Education
Foundation. Bazillion Books for Kids is a community-wide effort
to end book poverty and foster a life-long love of reading in Salem
and Keizer by putting free books into the hands of every
child. Funded by a volunteer-run bookstore, private donors and
community partners, the program's goal is to give away more than
500,000 free books every year. We encourage you to take a few
minutes to talk to your students about their books and the importance
of reading each day as we encourage using the RAH sheets
each month.

Dear Parents,

Before Winter Break we will be sending home a flyer with your students describing the opportunity to win prizes in the library for reading during this time. In order to win prizes, each student must fill out a piece of paper following the directions on the flyer. The paper should include dates read, title of books, minutes read and TOTAL minutes read. This paper should be returned TO THE LIBRARY with a parent signature. This will be different than their RAH folders. To be eligible, they must keep track of this information on a separate piece of paper and turn it in to the library during the FIRST week back from vacation(Jan.9-11th). Please encourage your students to read over Winter Break!!

Students Return Library Books/Summer Library

Students Return Library Books:  A short reminder to all students/parents that the last day for students to have their library books turned in will be Friday, June 1st.  The first three classes that have ALL books returned and ALL fines paid will be having a celebration in the library.  When all books are returned, we will be starting inventory and need all books back on the shelves in order to do that.  Thank you for helping us remind your student.

Forest Ridge Summer Library Hours:  Mrs. Robinett will be running a summer library book check-out for Forest Ridge students beginning on Wednesday, June 20th and continuing June 27th, July 11, July 18th, July 25th and August 1st between the hours of 10am-11am.  Students will need to be accompanied by a parent or babysitter in order to attend.  Each student will be able to check out two books and each parent will be able to check out five books for one week.  We hope that our Forest Ridge parents will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to keep a variety of books in your children's hands all summer.

However, only students from Forest Ridge will be battling among one another this year. Teams will be made up of 4 students, from 4th through 5th grade. Each team will select a captain. Team members will need to memorize titles, authors, and genre of the books they read exactly as published on the permission form. Questions asked will also include content. Battles will take place during lunch or recess time. Parents are welcome to attend battles. The winning team members' names will be engraved on a plaque in the library.
